FLIP SIMMONS: March 2011

Arachnophobia anyone?

I find this photo by Russell Watkins is phenomenal - Eerie and beautiful.

The massive floods, last year in Pakistan, drove millions of spiders into the trees to escape the rising waters. These trees have become cocooned in spider webs. This phenomenon is due to the fact that the waters have taken so long to recede. [Dare you to stand under one & shake it

Apparently, the webs are helping lower the spread of malaria, as the mosquitos are being caught by the spiders. I guess it's a silver lining for the people of Sindh, who are already facing massive hardships as a result of the devastating floods.

Over 5.4 million people, including 2.7 million children have been affected by the monsoon flood in Pakistan, and are still in need of immediate help.

UNICEF is helping children and families, and scaling up their response to meet the urgent needs in the worst-affected districts.
